Strategy for IAS/JKAS examination:
Indian Administrative Services examination or any kind of state/UT civil services examination may be KAS examination of Jammu and Kashmir is a three tier examination process and is the highest level or one of the toughest examinations of the country or any state. The three stages are Preliminary stage, Mains Exam and Personality Test. In this article we are discussing the basic strategy for studying to qualify this examination. The strategy will be applied on the fresher candidate who is thinking to begin the preparation for IAS or JKAS OR KAS examination. The strategy has been devised in terms of small targets called as month wise target as discussed below.
Month wise targets when a candidate is preparing first time and not for exam but to complete the syllabus at first.
15 Month strategy: You may start preparation beginning form any month of the year.
• Month 1 to 3 Read all NCERT along with newspapers and Current affair magazines.
• Month 4 to 6 all books of GS 1 2 3 4 along with CSAT paper. Daily current affairs
• Month 7 to 9 repeat NCERT books and GS 1 2 and Essay Paper plus daily current affairs
• Month 10 and 11 repeat GS 3 4 and writing practice.
• Month 12 and 13 repeat NCERT 11th and 12th and writing practice essay, English, CSAT practice .
• Month 14 and 15. Repeat GS 1 2 3 4 and start solving old question papers of Prelims Now after completing whole the 15 Month strategy, now start preparing for making first attempt.
12 Months strategy for Up-coming Prelims Exam.
12th Month wise strategy to qualify Prelims Test of the next exam. Since UPSC mostly conduct preliminary exam in last week of May or first week of June, so the Month wise strategy should be started from June of the previous year. It is important to mention here that Study for all the three stage examinations (Prelims, Mains and interview) must go simultaneously and is not in a separated manner.
June and July: Start reading and revising NCERT books again.
August and September: Start studying for GS paper 1 2 3 4 simultaneously plus Current affairs.
Oct and November: First Revision GS paper 1 2 3 4 along with current affairs
December and January: Second Revision GS paper 1 2 3 4 along with Current affairs
Feb and March: 3rd Revision GS Paper 1 2 3 4 along with Prelims GS Paper and CSAT paper besides Current affairs.
April and May: Study only for Prelims GS and CSAT papers along with current affairs.
Ending May: Appear in Exam Prelims.
Now Mains Exam will be held at least in Oct or November so you have 5 months for Mains preparation.
5 Months strategy for Mains Exam is as
June and July next year (if Prelims qualified): 4th Revision of GS 1 2 3 4 along with current affairs. (if not qualified repeat the above again)
August September and Oct. 5th Revision GS papers 1 2 3 4 along with current and start writing essays and practice answers writing.
Now if Mains is qualified, the personality test is usually held in the month of January next year. So one has about two month time for appearing in the last stage that is Interview.
2 Months strategy for Interview.
December and January: Start oral preparation, you may join a mock interview sessions. Study Current affairs etc.
