How to start upsc preparation from zero level
Manage Time Table for JKAS or UPSC CCE preparation: Jammu
and Kashmir Administrative services examination (JKAS), is a three tier
examination, requires hard work, patience, endurance, consistency and
effective time management. Same is the case with UPSC CCE examination as
the syllabus and pattern of both the examination is now similar.
Since its a lengthy process of examination, it requires stamina and
patience. One who lacks patience will be out of the race. Consistency is
very important to sustain its preparation process. There may be many
failures which will distract and demotivate the candidate but one with
endurance and patience will again stand up and run.
Now we will discuss how to manage our time of 24 hours for upsc preparation of this prestigious examination.
Since undergraduates aspirants are still at college level or we can say
at zero level for the upsc preparation, it is very easy for them to
manage their ample of time available. If an undergraduate is in first
semester or at beginning he or she has almost 3 years (in case of
General Degree course, for professional degree the time period may vary)
for his completion of bachelor degree and same time is available for
his first attempt at UPSC or JKAS examination provided the candidate has
acquired 21 years of age on 1st August of the year in which the
notification has been issued.
Undergraduate candidates have enough time to manage to study for UPSC or
JKAS examination as they have almost 3 to 5 years to reach the stage of
eligibility with respect to qualification as well as age (21years). So
candidates graduating in 3 years can manage their time by following
ways.
Now we will discuss the time table for upsc preparation from zero level in detail as under.
During first year.
1- One can begin with basic concepts and some basic general knowledge.
2- NCERT books (6th to 12th standard) should be followed by students for making strong foundation.
3- 2-3 hours daily devotion towards GS preparations.
4- Watching economic news.
5- Reading some magazines and newspapers randomly just to make habit of reading. Read anything from the newspaper.
6-Watch some interviews of JKAS or IAS qualified candidates on YouTube.
7- Read about the stories of Successful candidates.
8-Collect previous exam papers of Preliminary test and mains examination in hard copy format.
9- Solve some previous years question papers of Preliminary test in order to know about your level in General Knowledge.
10- Candidate should have an Over view of JKAS or IAS exam syllabus so
that one can become familiar with the topics present in the syllabus.
During second year
1- Candidate should try to read effective articles from "the Hindu" or "Times of India" newspapers.
2- Reading NCERT books should be completed at the end of first year and revisions must be started thereafter.
3- Basic Arihant books for General knowledge (by Tarun Goyal ) must be started.
4- Candidate now must devote 3 to 4 hours per day for JKAS or IAS preparation besides studying their own course subjects.
5-Reading newspaper and solving old question papers should be continued.
6-Study geographical maps of Jammu and Kashmir, India and The World randomly.
7- Daily solving of CSAT questions.
8-Essay writing on some important current issues. One essay per week. Thereafter self analyzing the Essays.
During Third Year.
1- Now candidates should focus more on the topics mentioned in the syllabus.
2- Candidates should begin studies for Preliminary test and mains together.
3-Solve more previous Preliminary Question papers.
4-Solve more and more CSAT questions papers.
5-Practise Mains Answer writing.
6-Choose your Optional subject either a graduation course related
subject or what ever you are interested in. If you choose a subject
other than what is in your graduation course, then you must choose one
in which you are interested.
So for you have build a base. As soon as you complete the the Graduation
degree course, you become eligible for applying for JKAS or IAS
examination provided that you have attained the age of 21 year on 1st
Jan of the year in which the advertisement is issued by JKPSC or UPSC.
Now your basic concept is almost clear. You must now prepare with full time.
You have now 24 hours with you. Ample of time is available with you. Its
very important that ample time management is even harder than
management of less time available. Because a person having lot of free
time starts thinking that he or she has enough time to do the particular
thing and he or she become lazy by saying that "i will do it tomorrow".
But friends, Tomorrow will never come. What ever you want to do, Do It
Today.
There may be two conditions.
1. If you want to give full time for JKAS preparation.
2. If you want to give part time for this preparation.
FULL TIME PREPARATION.
It means after your graduation course, either you may go for coaching
classes at JAMMU OR NEW DELHI and give full time for this preparation.
Or You may stay at home with your own study material including online
material, for Self Studies.
Many people go for Coaching classes. But many do not go.
If you build your basics concepts clear and your goal is clear during
the past three to four years of graduation course, you have no need to
go for coaching classes. Your self preparation from zero level will give
you the best results and hence final selection in JKAS or UPSC
examination.
In case of self preparation, you may study at most 10 hours a day. Many
people will say that you have to study 20 or 22 hours. It is a wrong
perception. You have to manage your time for all the activities. First
of all what is important is your Health. Keep complete 6 to 7 hours for
SLEEP. you can not skip sleeping. SLEEPING makes us feel refresh and
energizes us again for doing work.
Now how to study for 10 complete hours. It is not important that you keep study continuously for 10 hours.
Break the 10 hours further into little periods.
Study for 2 hours period at a time. Design your time table according to your habit.
Studying a particular subject at a particular time also matter. If you
have a habit of studying History in morning, you can not study it at
evening. Fix the time for each particular subject. You should not go
forcibly for studying. Feel relax. Enjoy studying the subject.
What to do in the rest of time available.
• Enjoy your Hobby.
• Go for morning or evening walks.
• Go for Gym or Exercise.
• Go for movie also
• Meet your friends also.
• Give time to your parents also.
Do not become a Book Worm. Remember knowledge gained by experience is far better than knowledge gained by books.
So
• 6 hours sleep.
• 10 hours study for JKAS or IAS exam.
• 8 hours other activities including taking food, bath, hobby, gym, exercise, walks, meeting with relatives etc.
PART TIME PREPARATION.
After your graduation is over and you are going for some backup
programme like part time job or higher study, then you have to manage
your time differently. Its only possible that you can study well after
graduation in a part time way, if you have done an effective basic study
before the completion of graduation course.
In case of part time job of more than 8 hours, you have to study about 8
hours daily. Then 6 hour of sleep. Then other activities like
practicing your hobbies, gym supersizes, meeting with relatives friends
should be stopped.
So
• 8 hour Job or other Higher study.
• 8 hours study for JKAS or IAS exam.
• 6 hours for study.
• 2 hours for food, bath and other unavoidable activities.
