There are so many things important that you must know before starting the preparation for JKAS interview.
We are sharing some of the 30 important Interview tips which our candidates, in order to make them aware about the things, need to imbibe. JKAS interview or also known as Personality Test, is a final stage of selection process. Separate e-summon letters are issued by JKPSC to each mains qualified candidate for entering into the interview room.
JKAS interview is just a 20 to 30 minutes game and it will change your life forever. So follow our below explained points in order to achieve the highest marks in your Interview.
1.
Begin as early as possible. It is a general routine that the candidates who have taken the IAS mains examination do not wait for results and begin preparation for interview. Similar is the case here too. One who have done with the mains examination should begin the preparation for personality test without wasting much time.
2. Know Yourself. It is the most important thing to know about yourself. You must prepare an effective introduction of your self. Your introduction must be short and precise but covering everything. A Lengthy introduction must be avoided. What to say in your introduction? It must include your name, residence, basic education, highest qualification, current occupation, extra technical education and your hobby in the same order. For example: "My name is Suresh Kumar, I belong to gandinagar district Jammu. I have done my basic education from xyz school and I did my Master degree in Chemistry from University of Jammu. I have 3 years experience in education department as lecturer at 10+2 level. My hobby is photography."
3. Go through your Bio data. Know about your bio data which includes your name, basic education, trends in marks obtained from class 10th to your highest qualification, your technical education, your date of birth, place of birth, about NCC or NSS certificates, sports certificates and awards, etc. Your name also matters a lot. If your name is an a common noun then you have not to worry but if it is some special name like Subhash, Karan, etc they may ask about Subhash Chander Bose or Karan Singh, the famous personalities, etc. So prepare all such things. Some time JKAS interview penal relates your date of birth with some events in past and ask you something related to that. For example if your date of birth is 1st Jan. They may ask you what is 1st Jan celebrated as? Or what has happened on this day in our history or some other things related to that. So you must think how especially your birth day and date can be related with.
4. Positive Thinking. JKAS interview is a game of positiveness. Always be positive and think positive. You may become little nervous before the interview but never think that it is not going to work inside. Believe in your self and build a positive attitude.
5. Self Confidence. Be confidant over yourself but never be over confident. If you are originally representing yourself before the JKAS interview board then why to worry. Think that I am prepared well. I am a positive person. I have good potential. I can speak well. I can express well. Think about your previous good things happened to you like your good interactions with some great personalities. And always remember that interview is just a normal chat inside a room between you and few people who wanted to know what you are originally.
6. Don't Lie. It is very important that you should not tell lie about yourself before the JKAS interview penal. Many people hide their previous job details, their previous qualification details, or hide their hobbies, etc. The chairpersons and board members are so clever that they can easily trap you and know that the person is lying. So avoid lies and reveal everything truly what ever they ask about you.
7. Improve Communication Skills. Communication skills has a great significance in JKAS interview. So it is important that one must have a good communication techniques. It is not important that you have to talk in a particular language like English. You may communicate with any language which you are comfortable in. But keep in mind that you must tell the board at beginning that you are comfortable in that particular language. Moreover you should speak calmly and little loudly during answering or discussions. So take care of your throat also before going for personality test.
8. Read Newspaper Daily. Newspaper is the ultimate source of current affairs for you. Reading newspaper not only provides ample of information regarding current happenings around the world but also improves the vocabulary. One should begin reading news paper as early as possible if one want to qualify the exam. For JKAS interview you should regularly read an authentic newspaper like The Hindu or The Times of India until the interview is over.
9. Prepare Everything About your Hobby. Hobby is most favorite topic of the chairperson and members of the JKAS interview penal. So you must prepare every thing about your hobby or hobbies. For example if your hobby is reading books. Then questions like what types of books you read? Name some books you have read so far. Names some famous anthers. Or if your hobby is gardening, they may ask what kinds of plants you care in your garden, names some plants and their benefits, name some famous gardens of India or world, etc. So hobby is one of the area you should work on before going for interview.
10. Revise your Optional Subject. Yes JKAS interview penal may ask you about the topics related to your optional subject in mains examination. They may also ask why you choose your optional subject. Justify.
11. Revise about your Specialization. If you are post graduate or having higher qualification or any technical qualification you should be ready to face questions pertaining to that. So make sure that you have a general idea about your specialization. Where from you did complete the specialization course? Why you are interested in such subject? How is it useful to you and the society? etc.
12. Know about your Home District. In JKAS interview it is again very important that you must know everything about your home district. You must look about the geography, topography, flora and fauna of your native district, famous personalities, famous areas, tourist spots, monuments, famous places, local rivers, ongoing hydroelectric power projects, area of your district, population, demography, number of revenue units, blocks, panchayats, employment sources, natural resources, distance up to capital cities, etc.
13. Know about your Union Territory. You must also know every thing about your UT or State. Area, population, demography, geography, history, polity, etc important ongoing power generation projects, tourism potential, horticultural status, agriculture pattern, etc must be focused on.
14. Don't compromises your Honesty and Integrity in JKAS interview. Whenever some questions are asked which you are supposed to answer by compromising your honesty and integrity, answer in such a way that your honesty and integrity do not get compromised.
15. Answer with positive Body Language. Body language is also important during your answering to a question. But you must not show over movements of your hands during conversation. Avoid odd movement of hands, arms, legs, head, don't look here and there. Use mild body language to answer a question.
16. Listen First. It is very important that you must first of all listen whole thing what what the member or chairperson is asking. Do not be eager to answer if you know the answer already. First listen whole question and then take a pause of few seconds and then start answering the question. Some candidates are over confidant and they listen only half of the question. Members dislike such attitude of the candidate. It shows over confidence and little patience. Penal also watch how much patient the candidate is.
17. Think for few seconds before answering question. Take your time for answer. Do not answer too quickly. It also shows how patient you are. You may ask for permission, "may I take few seconds to think before answer?". Answering too quickly may land you in some trouble. During this time you may think and design the answer to a particular question.
18. Apply common sense during interview. You must know another important thing that JKAS interview is a game of Common sense. Many questions they ask you are about to judge your common sense.
19. Dress up Neat and Clean. You must dress up neat and clean. KAS interview is general a personality test and your dress up also reflect a part of your personality. For men, formal pants and shirts with a tie is minimum requirement to wear. Dull colors be used instead of bright ones. Navy blue, light blue or white shirt and black, blue, grey, brown pants be preferred. You may wear a coat or sweaters if it is winter season. For women a simple, light colored, Indian suit or sari may be preferred. Light makeup may be used by women.
20. Make a checklist of your documents. May sure that you are carrying all the necessary documents in your folder or file along with the printout of e-Summon letter. Make a checklist to ensure that.
21. Read news paper even on the day of your interview. Reading newspaper on the day of interview is very essential. You must also watch news in the morning of your interview Day. Some times questions from recent news may be asked. So spend little time on it. The questions may be as tell about the major headlines of today's newspaper.
22. Take Mock Interviews. Yes mocks are essential for tackling the problems in JKAS interview. Mocks are needed by new candidates who are going to appear in the interview for the first time. If you are already drop out of interview, it is not required. Mocks are to be taken as feedback exercise for knowing about yourself regarding your knowledge, communications skills, patience, etc. But do not worry if you do not go well during mocks. Mock penal may advise and council you regarding your mistakes and deficiencies and accordingly you may improve it.
23. Say NO if you don't Know. It is a unique character of an administrator to say "NO". So if you do not the answer of a question, say "Sorry sir I do not know the answer". Some people try to guess the answer when they do not know. It is a wrong practice. Yes you may guess the answer provided that you first ask for permission from the penal for guessing the particular answer.
24. Keep Eye Contact with the interviewer. Keeping eye to eye contact during discussions and answering of questions is more important. Do not look downwards or here and there. It gives a bad impression of your personality and communication skills.
25. Involve in Discussion. As we know that, JKAS interview is not just a YES NO session but a discussions platform. Many questions they ask need discussions and you should also be well prepared for such discussions with penal.
26. Do not study much about Factual data. Factual figures are hardly asked during personality test. So avoid learning such things and focus more on logical and reasoning and some conceptual things. For example they are not interested in knowing how much is the target achieved by SBM mission instead they will ask you how effective the scheme is and what is the improvement in society after this scheme came into existence.
27. Answer with balanced approach. Some time they will ask you the pro and cons of a particular government scheme or a particular law or act. Then you must have a balanced approach towards the answering of such question. You may not say anything against any government scheme as you are going to be part of government soon.
28. Use the Language you are comfortable with. It is not necessary that you should speak in English only during JKAS interview. If you are comfortable in Urdu or Hindi or mixture of languages, you may speak. Firstly You should ask for permission to do so.
29. Prepare well about your previous job/jobs if any. Yes they are more interested to know about what you did in past and what you are doing currently. So express freely about your past jobs and experiences in introduction only. They may ask about the place of your posting etc. For example a person from Jammu is serving Ladakh area in any job. They will be interested in knowing about Ladakh area. So prepare well what you experiences in past.
30. Take time to answer any Reasoning Question. Last but now the least. It is also known that one of the member of the Interview penal may asks one or more reasoning question/s. You will be provided a pencil and a paper on the table. So take time, think, calculate and answer.
