JKAS Examination:     Jammu and Kashmir UT Service, better known as Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), is the prestigious service in the UT of J and K. The JKAS Exam is conducted by JKPSC (Jammu Kashmir Public Services Commission) at UT level. The exam is conducted in three stages. The first stage is preliminary test (PT) which is just a screening test to allow students to sit in the next stage of examination. The next stage is Mains Examination. After qualifying this tier, the candidates are called for interview. Interview (Personality Test) is Conducted  by a panel constituted by JKPSC Chairperson and members. Final result of JKAS exam is declared after this stage. Then JKPSC send the selection list of qualified candidate to Government  Medical College Jammu and Srinagar for the medical examination of the selected candidates respectivly. Medical Test procedure for KAS officers..

Is there any medical test for KAS selected candidate? This question always comes in the minds of KAS aspirants. Medical fitness is the most important factor for everyone who inspires to work. Work is imposible without fitness of the body. Only healthy body possesses the healthy mind.

After you clear the KAS exam, there is a final examination called Medical examination of the candidates.
Actually the KAS final result notification is itself the notification for medical examination of the selected candidates as JKPSC mention in the same notification that all selected candidates must approach the respective medical colleges in Jammu and Srinagar for further medical test. This medical test is mandatory and there is no further appointment of the candidate without the medical fitness report. It is the most important factor for the allocation of civil services. Based on the medical reports, the candidate may he recommended as temporarily or permanently fit or unfit for all the civil services.

Designated hospitals for medical examination.


Medical test is conducted in Govt. Medical College Jammu and Govt (GMC Jammu). Medical College Srinagar (GMC Srinagar) for both jammu and kashmir based selected candidates respectively. Since there are the only two medical hospitals so for so test is to be conducted in these two hospitals only. But now many others medical colleges have been established and it is possible that candidates may be allocated for medical test in other medical colleges also.

Each candidate must approach respective medical college in order to know when the medical test is being conducted.

Medical college administration constitute a Medical board for the conduct of medical examination of the candidates. Medical board consist of doctors belonging to different fields like Physician, Pathology, dermatology, orthopaedic, optics, ENT, etc.
College administration issues a prior notice mentioning the roaster of candidates for medical examination by the board along with all the tests which the candidates must do perfom in the govt. medical college. 

There are about 15 tests which the candidates are asked to do. 

The list of tests is as under:


1. Hb Test
2. Liver functioning test
3. Chest X-ray
4. Ultrasonography of abdomin
5. X-ray of legs joints
6. Ophthalmology/eye test
7. Nose and throat examination
8. Sound test
9. General Skin examination
10. Tooth health examination
11. Height, weight and chest girth examination
12. Electrocardiogram
13. Breath and heart rate examination
14. Urine test
15. AIDS test
16. Piles test, etc.


Whole medical test process will take 2 to 3 days if your are more active other wise it may delay further as different tests are to be done in different labs of different departments of the medical college. Try to do as early as possible. All the tests must be done before the date of your medical board examination. Medical board will examine all the reports of the tests and will finally fill up the format mentioning your overall health status.

Steps to be followed:


• Approcch the medical college authority and submit your name for medical examination

• Collect the receipt from the authority along with the slip in which all the tests are recommended. It is important to mention here that all the tests recommended by the authority should be done in the said Govt. Medical College. Any test done in private lab will not be entertained by the medical board.

• Give the sample of urine, blood, etc, to the respective department in the medical collge for the tests which are to be done through the urine and blood. The candidate must come fasting for 10 hours or more before giving sample of urine and blood for the particular test. Take the receipts from all labs where you deposited your sample. Maintain a zipped folder in which you collect the receipts of all the sample deposited. Do not lose any receipt or you will be in troble to resample the same. Wait for the results. Collect the results of urine and blood tests the next day.

• Take the slips for X-ray, ultrasonography and ECG from the respective counter and go to X-ray section to conduct the X-ray of your chest, conduct ultrasonography of the abdomin, and ECG of Heart. Wait for the reports and collect the reports when available.

• Conduct the eye test in the ophthalmology section by taking an OPD slip for eye examination. Collect the report when available.

• Visit ENT section. Examine and clean your ears if required, conduct sound test of your ear, collect the reports when avialable. Simultaneously, conduct the nose and throat examination also. 

• Visit dermatology section to examine your skin and take reports from the doctor.

• Visit dentist to take dental health report. Clean your tooth if required. 

• Take x-ray of your knee and feet.
Collect all the reports before the day of your medical board examination.

The day of your medical board.


On the day, arrive on time, wait for your turn and enter the hall when you are called to enter. Fill up the formalities.
Handicapped candidates must come along with the appliances being used by him or her and must also bring the disability certificate issued by authentic medical board.

All the candidates with pregnancy are fit for all services except police services where physical fitnes is required. They may take maternity leave and join the police services after the pranancy is over.

Your height, weight and chest girth will be measured here firstly. The physician will measure your heart best, check your pulse rate and ECG. Now you have to go to the respective doctor along with your reports. For example when you go to ENT specialist, show the reports of ENT and the doctor will examine and will mark the status of your ENT health on the report. Similarly you have to visit doctors of other sections one by one and finally you have to to submit your signed health report to the authority. Now your medical examination is complete and you are free to go home.

After medical examination of all the candidates is over, the medical college authority sent medical reports of all the candidates to General Adminstration Department (GAD) for further examination and there after assigning of cadre to the candidates is done based on the preference given by the candidates. As you know there are three services as Administrative Service, Account service and JK Police Service. Based on fitness, preferences of services and final exam merit, the candidates are allocated the servies and final order is notified by GAD.

After the order is released the candidates have to go for joining the traning programme at Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management and Public Administration (JKIMPA) at Jammu and Srinagar respectively.
