Overview of JKAS examination.

JKAS Examination:     Jammu and Kashmir UT Service, better known as Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), is the prestigious service in the UT of J and K. The JKAS Exam is conducted by JKPSC (Jammu Kashmir Public Services Commission) at UT level. The exam is conducted in three stages. The first stage is preliminary test (PT) which is just a screening test to allow students to sit in the next stage of examination. The next stage is Mains Examination. After qualifying this tier, the candidates are called for interview. Interview (Personality Test) is Conducted  by a panel constituted by JKPSC Chairperson and members. Final result of JKAS exam is declared after this stage. Then JKPSC send the selection list of qualified candidate to Government  Medical College Jammu and Srinagar for the medical examination of the selected candidates respectivly. Who is not eligible for KAS examination ?



Who is ineligible for KAS Examination?

Before applying for KAS examination, a candidate must go through the following points in order to know about his or her eligibilty for this examination according to SRO 103 issued by Government on 23rd Feb 2018. These are the points mentioning the ineligibility conditions. Such camdidates can not apply for this examination.

1. Any General Category candidate having completed the age of 32 years on 1st January of the year in which notification is published.

2.Any candidate belonging to SC, ST, RBA, Social Castes having completed the age 34 years on 1st January of the year in which notification is published.

3. Any candidate having completed the age of 34 years and is holding a civil post in the state in substantive capacity.

4. Any physically challened candidate having completed the age of 35 years irrespective of any category.

5. Any candidate having age less than 21 years on 1st January of the year in which notification is published.

6. Any candidate who do not posses a graduate degree.

7. Any undergraduate sutdent pursuing graduate degree course can not apply or appear in the examination.

8. Any candidate who has been barred by the commission for a particular time period can not apply.

9. Any General category candidate who already has completed 6 attempts at this examination, can not apply.

10. Any Candidate belonging to RBA, social castes or ALC (including the physically challanged candidates) who already has completed 9 attempts at this examination, can not apply.

11. Any Physically challged general category candidate who already has completed 9 attempts at this examination, can not apply.

12. Any candidate of MBBS or medical field without completed their internship are provisionally admitted to the examination. But at the time of interview thay must produce final Degree to the commision.

The minimum and upper age limit for JKAS examination for different category as per SRO 103 is also given in the following table.

But in case of JKAS examination 2021, govt has given one time age relaxation to the aspirants as per SO 21 dated 18th January2021.
1. Open category maximum age 37 years.
2. Reserve category and In-service candidates maximum age 39 years.
3. Physically handicapped candidates maximum age limit is 40 years.


For police service the candidate must posses following physical standard also.

For males
[a] Height- 165cm
[b] Chest girth minimum- 84cm
[c] Chest expansion- 5 cm

For females
[a] Height-150cm
[b] Chest girth minimum- 79cm
[c] Chest expansion- 5 cm

For candidates from Leh/Kargil

A.For males
[a] Height- 165cm
[b] Chest girth minimum- 79cm
[c] Chest expansion- 5 cm

B. For females
[a] Height- 145cm
[b] Chest girth minimum- 74cm
[c] Chest expansion- 5 cm

The physcal standards are measured during the medical examination after final selection list is made by the commission. Physicall fitness not required for JK admistrative services or JK account services but only for JK Police Services.
