Overview of JKAS examination.

JKAS Examination:     Jammu and Kashmir UT Service, better known as Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), is the prestigious service in the UT of J and K. The JKAS Exam is conducted by JKPSC (Jammu Kashmir Public Services Commission) at UT level. The exam is conducted in three stages. The first stage is preliminary test (PT) which is just a screening test to allow students to sit in the next stage of examination. The next stage is Mains Examination. After qualifying this tier, the candidates are called for interview. Interview (Personality Test) is Conducted  by a panel constituted by JKPSC Chairperson and members. Final result of JKAS exam is declared after this stage. Then JKPSC send the selection list of qualified candidate to Government  Medical College Jammu and Srinagar for the medical examination of the selected candidates respectivly. How to prepare for English Paper of JKAS Mains Examination?


Since we all know that General English paper is just a qualifying paper and it's marks are not included for the final merit. If we see the syllabus of this subject, it's written that the aim of the  question papers to test the ability of candidates to read and understand serious discursive prose and to express his or her ideas clearly correctly.
The paper is of matriculation or equivalent standard and candidates need not to go for extensive study of the subject. It's just a common test of  English language. How much English language,  a candidate has learned up to his or her Graduation studies is to be expressed in the paper.

As per syllabus, the broad pattern of the question paper is as following.

1) comprehension of given passages.
2) precis writing.
3) usage and vocabulary
4) Short Essays

These are some broad topics from which the questions are asked generally. The questions are so general and common sense based.

Now we will discuss the above areas along with previsous Exam Question paper (JKAS-2018 Mains).

1) The first Questions is regarding the short essay. There are about 4 topics of which the candidate has to choose one topic for writing the essay. The essay carries 100 marks.


2) The question 2 contains a long passage. Candidate has to read the passage comprehensively and carefully and at the end there are about five sub questions. Answers to the questions are to be designed by the candidate taking the fact from the read passage. The total marks of this question are 75. So each Subquestion
carries 15 marks.



3) The third question is regarding the precis writing. It's mention in the question that candidate should write the precis to one third of length of the passages given and should not give any title to the precis. One should avoid any extra things to write a God precis. Only core idea to be taken from the given paragraph. The number of words of original paragraph is given and one can easily calculate the number of words required for writing precis by dividing it with 3. This question carries 75 marks.




4) Question number 4 contains Correction of sentences, missing words, use of correct form of verb, anonyms or synonyms, rewriting sentences without changing the meaning, use of words in a sentence,fill in the blanks with appropriate words and  idioms and phrases. This questions collectively carries 50 marks. This questions is more scoring as it's grammatical portion and can yield good marks. 





Lastly it is very important to discuss that how to prepare for this paper. The trick is so simple. Just take some previsous years question papers and go through them. Solve about 5 papers, you will get an idea of the questions types and difficulty level of the questions. Practise the essay writing at home on daily basis. No extra efforts are needed to read for the paper. There are some examples of candidate qualifying this paper without any preparations. So it's easy to get it done only basic overview is needed to understand the paper.
