Previous and present JKAS exam Pattern.

Previous and present JKAS exam Pattern.
As we know that old pattern of JKAS exam has now been abolished and new pattern has been established since Jan 2018 by the new SRO 103 issued by JKPSC. The new pattern is more or less similar to the Civil services Exam conducted by UPSC.
New pattern is also a three tier exam having preliminary test (PT) , mains examination and interview stage.
Preliminary Test: In old pattern there were two papers. One consisting of Choossen subject (Optional Subject) and other consists of General Studies. In new pattern there are also two papers. One consists of General Studies (GS) and other consists of CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). PT is a entery stage. It's marks are not added to the final merit list and is considered only for making entry of candidates for the Mains Examinations. Each paper consist of 200 marks. In GS there are 100 questions each carrying 2  marks. In CSAT there are 80 questions each carrying 2.5 marks. CSAT is of  qualifying nature only that is you have to get only 33% of marks to qualify it. Final merit is made out of 200 marks of General study Paper only. There is negative marking of 1/3rd of total marks for each wrong answer. Total number of candidates shortlisted for mains examinations are in the ratio of 25:1 of the total number of posts advertised for the particular recruitment ( means 25 candidates for each post). Syllabus for PT is mentioned in detail in SRO 103 which can be downloaded from the official site of JKPSC.
Mains Examination: Mains examination is the second stage of this process. Candidate declared as qualified from PT are allowed to fill up the application forms for mains examinations online at official site of JKPSC. The most important thing is that you must possess  Degree of graduation. Many candidates became graduated but they don't have their degree collected from the respective. colleges or university. So you must collect your degrees before filling up of you application form for mains examination. In Previous pattern Mains examinations comprises of 8 Papers which included one paper of Compulsory general English , one paper of Essay writing, two general studies and  two papers of each optional subject (there were two optional subjects). In the new pattern there are again 8 papers which includes one General English, Essay writing, four General Studies and two optional papers. General English is compulsory to pass as it is only qualifying in nature.
Essay writing paper comprises of 300 marks. Other papers carry 250 marks each. So total marks which are important for merit are 1800 excluding general English.
Interview Stage: It is the last stage of examination process. The candidates selected for the interview are in the ratio of 3:1 of the total advertised posts means 3 candidates are taken for one post. When candidate qualify the mains exam, he or she is required to fill a Detailed Application Form (DAF) online where whole detail of candidate is to be filled. After this, each candidate is summoned separately for the interview by the issuance of eSummon with day, date and time of interview mentioned there in. Interview carries 300 marks. So total marks of (1800+300 equals to) 2100 are considered for the final merit list.
Thanks.
